Gokul Chairman Election 2026: Satej Patil Camp Wins 13-12, Mahayuti Plans Next Move
Gokul Chairman Election 2026 is set for October 29 after Satej Patil's panel defeated the Mahayuti 13-12 in Kolhapur. With Devendra Fadnavis expected to advise alliance leaders, the battle over the chairman's post remains in focus.
Before the election, predictions suggested that Satej Patil would win only four seats. Some Mahayuti leaders had even claimed that their panel would secure a sweeping 25-0 victory. However, the actual results overturned these expectations, with Patil’s Rajarshi Shahu Shetkari Samvichari Aghadi winning 13 seats and defeating the Mahayuti-backed panel.
Although Patil’s panel secured a narrow majority, the Mahayuti is now reportedly considering its options in the upcoming chairman election after failing to capture control of Gokul through the directors’ election. The newly elected directors will vote to select the chairman on October 29.
Mahayuti leaders are expected to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on October 27 to seek his advice regarding the Gokul chairman election. A scheduled Maharashtra Cabinet meeting was held in Mumbai on Tuesday, after which the Mahayuti leaders are expected to discuss the chairman’s selection with Fadnavis.
The newly elected Mahayuti directors have not yet received any instructions to remain absent from the chairman election meeting. However, according to sources, the Mahayuti is preparing to field a candidate for the chairman’s post. If the alliance decides to contest, the chairman election could witness another closely fought battle, similar to the directors’ election.
Congress leader Satej Patil, however, has dismissed the possibility of the Mahayuti taking a different position in the chairman election. He expressed confidence that the alliance’s leaders would cooperate in the selection process.
Patil said he had held discussions with Hasan Mushrif, Vinay Kore and Chandradeep Narake regarding the election. He also said that the dream of making the son of late Anandrao Patil Chuyekar, the founding chairman of the Gokul Milk Union, the chairman was being fulfilled.
Patil said he did not expect the Mahayuti leaders to take a different decision in these circumstances. He also maintained that government-approved directors and nominated directors are not entitled to vote in the election, arguing that allowing them to do so would undermine the purpose of cooperative elections.
The results of the Gokul directors’ election saw 13 candidates from Satej Patil’s Rajarshi Shahu Shetkari Samvichari Aghadi emerge victorious.
The winning candidates from the panel were Shashikant Patil Chuyekar, Babasaheb Shripati Chougale, Abhijit Prabhakar Taishete, Kisan Bapu So Chougale, Rahul Bajrang Desai, Babasaheb Vishnu Devkar, Vishwajit Dinkarrao Jadhav, Vidyadhar Baburao Gurbe, Anjana Kedari Redekar, Bhagyashree Dhiraj Dongale, Shashikant Shamrao Khot, Rajubaba Jaywantrao Awale and Bayaji Devu Shelke.
The Mahayuti-backed Chhatrapati Shahu Shetkari Vikas Aghadi secured 12 seats. Its winning candidates were Rajesh Narsingrao Patil, Rahul P. N. Patil, Ranjit K. P. Patil, Ranjit Dilip Patil, Ambarishsingh Sanjay Ghatge, Chetan Arun Narake, Ajit Shashikant Narake, Ajit Pandurang Patil, Virendra Sanjay Mandlik, Yuvraj Dattajirao Patil, Madan Baburao Desai and Amar Patil.
With the chairman election scheduled for October 29, the immediate focus is on whether the Mahayuti will field a candidate despite its defeat in the directors’ election or support the candidate backed by Satej Patil’s panel. The decision could determine the leadership of the Kolhapur District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union following the closely contested 13-12 verdict.
